Farmer Barred From Greenmarkets – NYTimes.com

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/30/dining/30dines.html

An interesting — and mostly sobering — reminder that we may not be getting what we think we are at the farmers’ markets. But of course there are incredible economic incentives for them to lie, given the price of organic/free-range/etc.

I don’t eat red meat or fowl, but I once read somewhere that “wild-caught Alaska salmon” is about as trustworthy a label as “extra virgin olive oil.”

Both industries are riddled with corruption, dilution, and substitution.
