You, you only, exist – Rainer Maria Rilke

The poet Rainer Maria Rilke wrote these words at the beginning of the century. Here, he is saying, “I rejoice that you exist.” Here, Rilke is saying that to love, one must be ready to accept two forms of solitude: one’s own and that of the other. To love is to ultimately accept: “Yes, I love you as you are. Even if you do not fulfill my dreams and hopes, the reality of you rejoices me more than my dreams.”
